Ray-Ray tries Rally

by Marsha Pugh on 08/01/12

We had an excellent day on Saturday, July 28.  The MidAtlantic Italian Greyhound Club of Central Maryland held a Rally seminar, demonstration and fun match for all IGs.

Before the event, it was a play date for the IGs.  While we held a club meeting, nine IGs ran from the front yard to the back and through the house getting to know one another and having a grand time.

The yard was shaded by mature oak trees so it was surprisingly cool.  After the meeting and lunch, it was time for the Rally seminar conducted by Peny Lang.  She gave a clear, complete and easy to understand view of Rally and then demonstrated each sign.  Aftward she had each of us walk the course as she explained each sign and how to negotiate it.  The course was challenging for beginners but not scary or too difficult.

Five of the nine IGs and their owners entered the match.  My Ray-Ray has never learned to sit.  No need, as a show dog, he shouldn't sit.  But we tried the rally course with at least nine places where a sit was required.  Needless to say, we came in last because he was the only IG who didn't sit at least once on command.

That's okay, we had fun and learned a lot about Rally.

Thank you to the Mid-Atlantic IG Club of Central Maryland for a fabulous day.
